Electric Epic
is the first solo circumnavigation of the world on an electric
motorcycle, beginning in Norway in April 2011.
Accompanied by just the hum of an AC motor, the whirr of the
drive chain and the whoosh of displaced air, Tormod Amlien will
ride from Scandinavia, through European Russia to Siberia, and
on to the Russian far east and to Vladivostok. From there, his
journey crosses the Pacific, traversing the continental USA from
Seattle to New York, and at last back to Europe. The team behind
Electric Epic think he can have this done and dusted in four
months.
Our hope is that Tormod’s going to be the man to demonstrate to
motorcyclists and non-motorcyclists that electric motorbikes are
going to be a big part of the future of personal transportation,
and the sooner this happens, the better. In a period of history
in which technology is moving more rapidly than ever before, the
attitude of much of the motorcycling establishment seems to be
standing still.
It’s about showing electric bikes to be fun, reliable,
and affordable. It’s about making sure that subsequent
generations will be able to take off on similar long-distance
tours, get into arguments at border posts, tear through mountain
passes and pull the occasional wheelie – long after oil has run
out or become uneconomical to extract.

The route
The bike is an specially-designed and built by
Mavizen for the trip.
As preparations for the journey move forward, and then the
wheels start turned for real - you can follow Tormod’s progress
on the blog, Facebook and Twitter. There will be frequent
updates so it will be possible to follow the journey more or
less in real time, as well as through GPS live tracking that
will show the current position of the vehicle.
